Southport Welcome Gardens

A more charming seaside town than Southport, North Carolina surely does not exist.  Southport is located  near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, a few miles south of Wilmington.  Built by ship captains and city founders as much as 200 years ago, many of the homes in the center of town and along the waterfront have historic designation. The oak trees (Live and Laurel) make most gardens shade gardens with hostas, confederate jasmine, pittosporum and azaleas showing up in most.  Several movies and television shows have been filmed here. The friendly Visitor's Center on Moore Street offers an historic walk brochure, so I took one and strolled through.  Entryways like these make you want to walk right up, don't they?
