Winter Honeysuckle

Lonicera fragrantissima

The buds are getting fat on this honeysuckle.  It seems to me it's normally blooming by now but maybe the unusually cold weather we've had is slowing it down.  Winter honeysuckle is a bit of a ragamuffin shrub - not terribly attractive - but the fragrance of the blossoms, especially at a time when other plants are still sleeping, makes it so worth growing.  Translucent red berries that come after the blooms are gorgeous, too, and the birds love them.
