Nepenthes 'Miranda'

Nepenthes 'Miranda' ((maxima x northiana) x maxima)

Carnivorous Nepenthes attracts flies and gnats with coloration which has the look and smell of carrion. The insects land on the opening of the pitcher; it is very slippery and they fall in. When they try to climb back out, reflexed hairs and slippery surfaces keep them from being able to, and they eventually drown and are dissolved by the plant and absorbed. I have seen Nepenthes at the McMillan Greenhouses at UNCC but never offered for sale in town until yesterday at Pike's. What a creepy-cool plant!
